Try to use your whole body to exercise in order to spread injury risk and to spread the strain and to burn more energy. If you get good at it you may start to like gym training as much as the running. It is crucial that you don't return to running until FULLY healed. You may even require surgery or some other form of intervention to recover fully, so be prepared for the worst. Traditionally, the treatment for lower back pain is increasing core strength to increase flexibility in muscles that are tight, which will provide better stabilization of the spine and exercises to correct the imbalances of the muscles. The muscles that surround the spine will provide stability and support of the spinal column. The tummy tuck and bridge lift can also help you to reduce back pain and strengthen the core muscles as well. The tummy tuck exercise is a simple pelvic tilt that draws the abdominal muscles away from the floor. To perform a tummy tuck, simply lie face down on the floor and squeeze your glutes to strengthen your spine.

Laboratory tests measuring inflammation are of limited value. Elevation of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) or C-reactive protein (CRP) occurs in about 70% of patients with active AS. The problem is that there is not a good correlation between the elevation in these blood tests and disease activity. It may be that the increases in ESR and CRP reflect the presence of active arthritis in joints outside of the spine. Normal ESR or CRP does not exclude the presence of clinically active AS. Patient education is important and should include a life-long program of regular stretching and range-of-motion exercise. Smokers should be encouraged to stop smoking.

Obviously, there will be a slight discomfort from the cold, but as soon as pain or excessive discomfort is experienced, it's time to remove the ice. Applying ice to an inflamed Achhiles tendon may help bring down swelling and dull the pain. Use a store-bought ice pack or make a homemade pack by placing several pieces of ice in a washcloth or plastic bag. In a pinch, you can also use a bag of frozen vegetables. Leave the ice on the tendon for several minutes, but not too long, as you can cause damage to the nerves. According to the Mayo Clinic, a 20-minute treatment can be applied several times per day.
